Sports Wear
Is anyone in your family active in sports? While you’re gathering uniforms, helmets and pads don’t forget about your eyewear! Make sure you and your family are playing to your full potential with the right sports vision gear.
Proper vision enhances your competitive edge by improving hand eye coordination-not to mention really being able to see what you’re doing! Even if you don’t need a corrective prescription, protective eyewear is critical to reducing your risk of sports-related eye injuries. Did you know that more than 600,000 sports-related eye injuries are reported every year? Over 90% of them can be prevented with the use of appropriate sports eyewear. Even non-contact sports can pose risks to your eyes and vision. A simple game like badminton still has an object flying around at about 60 mph!
Simon Eye Associates carries a full range of performance sports eyewear that will protect your vision and boost your game- no matter what your sport is!
Sports Eyewear Buying Tips
- Frames- Sport frames should be lightweight and durable, and made of a highly impact-resistant material-usually plastic or polycarbonate, and they should have rubber padding for cushion. Also, they should cover your entire eye socket, not just your eye ball. Wraparound frames provide added protection.
- Lenses- Polycarbonate lenses are the best for sports, because they are virtually unbreakable. They can also be prescriptioned. Safety is extremely important, but it’s not the only reason to get sports eyewear- you need visual clarity as well.
- Color Enhancement- Lenses can be tinted different colors to enhance your vision based on the needs of the athlete. Some tints improve contrast while others enhance depth perception. Many colors serve multiple purposes, so you’re sure to find an enhancement that is perfect for your game. For example: Oakley offers a lens tinted called Persimmon.
- It’s an orange high contrast lens designed to filter blue light, which boosts contrast and enhances depth perception. It’s recommended for snow, shooting, and use at dawn and dusk. Talk to one of our opticians about the sports you play to help decide which lens tint benefits you the most.
- Light Control- There are a couple lens coatings that can reduce glare so athletes can see better. Polarized lenses reduce glare. Anti-reflective coating reduces glare even at night time! Photochromic lenses transition from clear to a dark sunlens depending on how much light is around you
