Dr. Nicholas J. Shissias
A typical eye exam involves correcting vision and monitoring ocular health. The various tests that are used throughout an eye exam can reveal several systemic diseases that may not be under control or may not have been previously diagnosed. Patients rely on their primary care physicians to monitor their overall health and usually do not expect their eye doctor to examine their systemic health. The eye contains one of the densest supplies of blood vessels in the human body. Diseases that relate to blood flow and pathogens that travel within the blood stream and nervous system can have an effect on ocular health.
